Streelman, Collins share lead in Puerto Rico

Sun 14th, March 2010

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico (Sports Network) - Kevin Streelman and Chad Collins were atop the leaderboard Sunday at 12-under par when the third-round of the rain-delayed Puerto Rico Open was suspended for the day due to darkness.

Rain delays the first two days pushed everything back, as the second round was finally completed earlier Sunday.

The third round got underway with Collins in the final group. He was two-under through five holes, while Streelman was three-under through seven; the pair share the lead at minus-12.

Derek Lamely made a huge run in the third round to move to 11-under par. Lamely posted a seven-under through seven holes to jump into a share of third with Kris Blanks (seven holes) and Steve Wheatcroft (six holes), who were both two-under for their third rounds at Trump International Golf Club.

The third round is slated to resume Monday at 7:00 a.m. (et) with the final round to follow. Players will remain in the same groups for the final round and officials expect play to finish around 4:30 p.m.

The second round was completed early Sunday afternoon, and the 70 players that made the cut went back out in threesomes on both the first and 10th tees.

Streelman, in the next-to-last group off the first tee, collected three birdies to move into a share of the lead. He birdied three, five and seven to join Collins atop the leaderboard.

Collins birdied the two par-fives, Nos. 2 and 5, to get to minus-12.

"I just played solid. The high point would be no bogeys," said Collins, who finished the final seven holes of the second round earlier Sunday. "I've been putting well and chipping well. I'd like to be driving a little bit better, but all in all, I've just been solid the last two days."

Collin and Streelman are one shot clear of Lamely, who was in the first group out off the 10th tee. He posted six birdies and a bogey over his first nine holes. Around the turn, he birdied one and two to briefly share the lead at 11-under. He parred his next two holes and is one back.

Lamely will also start the final round on the 10th tee. The last time a player started on No. 10 in the third round and went on to win the title was Keith Clearwater at the 1987 Colonial Invitational.

Blanks played 25 holes in all on Sunday. He posted a 70 in round two and was two-under through seven holes of his third round.

J.J. Henry, Matt Bettencourt, and Jarrod Lyle played the most holes Sunday with 32 apiece.

After shooting 69 in round two, Henry was three-under through 14 holes to moved to minus-eight. Bettencourt and Lyle were plus-two in round three to drop to minus-three.

NOTES: There are 15 players within three strokes of the lead and the final group needs to play 31 holes on Monday so there could be plenty of movement among the leaders...This is the first Monday finish caused by rain since the Turning Stone Resort Championship in October.
