Mahan becomes highest-ranked American in world rankings

Mon 2nd, April 2012

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Hunter Mahan became the season's first two-time winner on the PGA Tour with his victory at the Houston Open on Sunday and that helped him become the highest-ranked American in this week's world rankings.

Mahan soared 10 spaces to No. 4. He will look to ride that momentum into Augusta this week in hopes of winning his first major championship.

The top three players -- Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood -- were unchanged from last week. Behind Mahan, Steve Stricker remained No. 5, while Martin Kaymer dipped two to sixth.

Tiger Woods, Charl Schwartzel, Justin Rose and Webb Simpson all fell one place apiece and are now seventh through 10th. Jason Day and Dustin Johnson stayed put in 11th and 12th.

Adam Scott tumbled three notches to 13th, Phil Mickelson inched up one to 14th and Graeme McDowell slipped a pair to No. 15.

Bubba Watson moved up two places to 16th as Bill Haas and Matt Kuchar dipped to 17th and 18th, respectively. PGA Champion Keegan Bradley and Nick Watney exchanged places with Bradley up to No. 19.
