St. Andrews, Scotland (Sports Network) - The United States easily won the Curtis Cup on Sunday, taking 5 1/2 of a possible eight points in the singles matches to defeat Great Britain & Ireland, 13-7.
It was the sixth consecutive victory for the United States and pushed its record in this amateur competition to 26-6-3.
The American side went into Sunday's eight singles matches with a four-point lead and did nothing to give the Great Britain & Ireland side any hope.
Kimberly Kim and Amanda Blumenherst took the first two matches for the Americans to put them within one point of outright victory and a half point away from at least retaining the Curtis Cup in the event of a tie.
Stacy Lewis handled it for the U.S.
Lewis toppled Elizabeth Bennett, 3 & 2, to polish off a perfect 5-0 week.
Tiffany Joh continued the American onslaught with a 6 & 5 drubbing of Carly Booth, then Jennie Lee of the U.S. and Michele Thompson halved the fifth match.
GB&I got a few points back. Florentyna Parker hammered Meghan Bolger, 6 & 4, while Krystle Caithness defeated Mina Harigae, 2 & 1,
In the anchor match, American Alison Walshe completed another perfect week for her side. She bested Sally Watson, 1-up to go 4-0 for the week.
