Erin, WI (Sports Network) - Jennifer Song and Tiffany Joh won two matches apiece on Friday to advance to the final of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Song, the 18-year-old captain of the Korean National Team, rolled to a 4 & 3 win over Lauren Doughtie in the morning semifinals, then knocked off Stephanie Kono, 2-up, in the semifinals.
Joh, who won the 2006 Women's Amateur Public Links as a 19-year-old, defeated Lee Lopez, 2 & 1, in the semifinals and then cruised to a 4 & 3 victory over Tiffany Lua in the semis.
Song and Joh will face off in the 36-hole match play final beginning Saturday morning at Erin Hills.
For Joh, it marks the second time in three years that she will be competing for the win. She defeated Kimberly Kim, 6 & 5, in the 2006 final -- only the third time in the championship's history that a player has won by a margin that high.
Joh will be looking to become just the fifth player to win the championship twice.
Even Michelle Wie was unable to accomplish that feat. Wie, now an 18-year-old star, was the youngest champion when she won the 2003 WAPL at the age of 13. But she was defeated by recent major winner Yani Tseng in the final the following year.
