Joh rallies for second Women's Publinx title

Sat 21st, June 2008

Erin, WI (Sports Network) - Tiffany Joh rallied from a 2-down deficit by winning four out of five holes from the 30th hole to come from behind and defeat Jennifer Song for her second title at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

Joh became the fifth player to win this title multiple times after her 2 & 1 victory on Saturday.

"I think winning this time around when I really wanted it, it was that much more meaningful," said Joh. "I think back when I first won it, I didn't really know what I was doing. I was just kind of out there thinking, oh, bonus rounds. I get to play another round. I think I stumbled into it. Afterwards, I realized how much it did for my confidence."

Joh, the 2006 winner, did not lead until the 33rd hole. She fell 2-down twice on the opening 18 and was that far back on three occasions during the last 18 holes.

Song was one-over par through 18 holes, but owned a 2-up lead. She won the sixth and seventh with a bogey and a par. The pair traded wins on eight and nine.

Joh got back to 1-down with a birdie on the 10th and her par on the 13th squared the match for the first time since the third.

However, bogeys at 15 and 17 left Joh 2-down heading to the afternoon 18.

"I played okay. I have to stop three-putting," Joh said after the first 18. "I left a lot of strokes out there."

Joh got back within 1-down with a birdie on the 20th hole, but Song birdied the 25th to again grab a 2-up margin.

The duo traded birdies on the 27th and 28th holes, then they both birdied the par-four 29th at Erin Hills.

Joh started to make her move on the 30th hole, which she took with a par. The match was all square when Joh birdied the par-five 32nd.

Joh grabbed her first lead with a birdie on the 33rd hole. Her lead moved to 2-up as she parred the next. Joh closed out the match with a par on the par- four 35th.

"I felt like I was in control [until] the last few holes," said Song, who has qualified for next week's U.S. Women's Open. "I felt I was not myself. I was thinking ahead of myself. That was the mistake."
