Kings try to make it three in a row as they host Blackhawks

Tue 1st, January 2008

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings will shoot for their first three-game winning streak since late October when they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks for tonight's test in the finale of a home-and-home series at the Staples Center.

The Kings have won back-to-back games directly on the heels of an eight-game losing streak as they've posted wins in Colorado and Chicago. Tonight, LA will begin a six-game homestand -- the club's longest residency of the season. The Kings are 8-12-1 at home this season.

After beating the Avalanche in Denver on Saturday, the Kings notched a dramatic victory the following night in Chicago. Dustin Brown scored two goals, including the game-winner with 2:29 left in overtime, to lift LA to the 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks at the United Center.

Los Angeles won the game when Brown's wrister from the left circle slid between the legs of Nikolai Khabibulin.

Kyle Calder had a goal and Tom Preissing collected two assists for Los Angeles, which erased a two-goal deficit in the game. Jason LaBarbera allowed two goals on 32 shots to earn the win.

The Kings haven't won three straight tilts since a four-game winning streak from October 19-27.

Jonathan Toews and Jacob Dowell lit the lamp for the Blackhawks in Sunday's loss, which ended a season-high four-game winning streak. Chicago was looking to win five games in a row for the first time since December 26, 2001-January 6, 2002.

Khabibulin stopped 33-of-36 shots, but lost for the first time in five outings.

Tonight marks the first of a three-game road trip for the Blackhawks, who are 7-6-2 as the visiting club this year.

Chicago and the Kings have split two meetings this year, but the Blackhawks have taken five of the last eight encounters. The Blackhawks have also come out on top in their previous two trips to the Staples Center.
