(Sports Network) - The New York Rangers will aim for their fourth win in five games this evening when they visit the rival New Jersey Devils for an Atlantic Division battle at the Prudential Center.
The Rangers have fared well against New Jersey this season, winning all four meetings with the Devils so far. However, that includes just one victory in Newark, a 4-2 win on November 14 in the Rangers' first test at Jersey's new building.
Overall, New York has taken seven of the last 12 encounters in the series, but the Devils have defeated the Rangers in five of seven and seven of the last 10 home meetings.
The Devils and Rangers are currently third and fourth, respectively, in the Atlantic Division. Philadelphia leads the division with 61 points, the Devils are two back and the Rangers have 56 points.
New York posted a decisive victory in Philadelphia on Thursday evening. Stephen Valiquette posted 20 saves for his first career shutout as the Rangers pounded the Flyers by a 4-0 count. New York's No. 1 goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will get the start in tonight's contest.
Chris Drury had a goal and an assist while Brendan Shanahan also scored for the Rangers. New York has won six straight contests in Philadelphia.
Tonight marks the third portion of a four-game road trip for the Blueshirts, who are just 8-11-6 as the visiting team this year.
Meanwhile, the Devils have dropped their last two games and have four setbacks in their last six contests.
New Jersey has begun its five-game homestand with an 0-2 record and was defeated by Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Ryan Malone scored two goals, as the Penguins beat the Devils 4-2 at the Prudential Center. It was the first game following the All-Star break for both teams.
Mike Rupp scored both goals for New Jersey.
Marty Brodeur allowed four goals on 27 shots in the loss. New Jersey defensemen struggled through a tough night on the back line, as three of Pittsburgh's four goals involved a defensive miscue by the Devils.
The Devils are 14-9-0 at home in the inaugural season at the Prudential Center, but Jersey has dropped four of its last five in Newark.
