Sizzling Ducks battle Flames in Anaheim

Fri 29th, February 2008

(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks will go for their fifth straight win as they continue their season-long homestand tonight against the Calgary Flames at the Honda Center.

The Ducks are 4-1-0 so far on the stand and have also won nine of their last 10 games after Sunday's 6-3 victory over Chicago. Teemu Selanne had a hat trick and added two assists in the win.

Selanne has five goals and three assists over a four-game point streak and six goals and five helpers in 10 games played this season after holding off retirement to rejoin the Ducks. His hat trick on Sunday was the 20th of his career.

Chris Kunitz had a goal and three assists while Ryan Getzlaf added a goal and two assists for the red-hot Ducks. Jonas Hiller made 29 saves in the win.

However, captain Chris Pronger left the game after he was on the receiving end of a stick to the face from Patrick Sharp in the second period. Pronger immediately fell to the ice before getting to his feet and heading to the locker room. It was later announced that he had a jaw contusion and he did not return to play.

He is considered doubtful for tonight.

Anaheim is fourth in the Western Conference and eight points behind first- place Dallas in the Pacific Division. The Ducks will wrap their season-long seven-game homestand on Monday against Ottawa. The club is 20-8-4 at the Honda Center this year.

Calgary, meanwhile, is even with Minnesota for first place in the Northwest Division. Both teams have 75 points so far on the season.

However, the Flames got just one point last time out as they lost to Colorado, 3-2, in overtime. Calgary led 2-1 heading into the third, but allowed the equalizer with 6:27 remaining in the third stanza. Then, Paul Stastny's power-play goal 3:02 into overtime lifted the Avs.

Dustin Boyd and Robyn Regehr scored for the Flames, who saw their four-game win streak halted. Miikka Kiprusoff allowed three goals on 34 shots for Calgary.

Calgary plays the first of back-to-back road games tonight and has won three in a row as the visitor. The Flames are 17-12-1 as the road team this year and will play in Phoenix on Saturday.

Tonight marks the fourth and final meeting between Calgary and Anaheim this year. The Ducks have taken two of three this year, four of six and five of their last eight against the Flames.

The Ducks have won six in a row at home against Calgary, which hasn't won in Anaheim since January 19, 2004.
