(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Ducks will try again to match their franchise record for consecutive victories, as they visit the Chicago Blackhawks tonight at the United Center.
The Ducks have ripped off a season-high six straight victories for the second time this year, one shy of the franchise best seven-game winning the club posted from February 20-March 7, 1999.
Anaheim also won six in a row from January 7-18 of this year, but had that run stopped with a loss in Dallas, the start of a six-game losing streak.
However, the Ducks have been on fire lately, winning 11 of 12 since that skid and the return of Teemu Selanne.
The return of Selanne and Scott Niedermayer -- both players contemplated retirement before rejoining the club later in the season -- has helped the Ducks recapture some of the magic from last year.
That magic was evident on Monday, as Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned away 24 shots to guide Anaheim past the Ottawa Senators, 3-1, in a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup Finals.
It was the first meeting between the clubs since the Ducks defeated the Senators in five games to capture the franchise's first-ever championship last season. Niedermayer and Corey Perry had a goal and assist each, while Todd Bertuzzi also scored for the Ducks.
Anaheim has climbed to within four points of first-place Dallas in the Pacific Division, and sits fourth overall in the Western Conference.
The Ducks have also won five in a row on the road and play the first of back- to-back tests as the visitor tonight. Anaheim is 16-15-3 on the road this year.
The Ducks have dominated the Blackhawks as of late. Anaheim has won five in a row -- including the first three matchups this season -- and 12 of its last 13 against Chicago. The Ducks have also won six straight in Chicago, as the Blackhawks haven't posted a home win over Anaheim since November 2, 2003.
Chicago has won four in a row at the United Center and starts a three-game homestand tonight. The Blackhawks were in Minnesota last night, and left town as 4-2 winners.
Jason Williams had a goal and an assist to pace Chicago, giving him three goals and six assists over a six-game point streak. Williams has played just seven games since returning from a groin injury that caused him to miss 35 straight games.
Duncan Keith, Dustin Byfuglien and Craig Adams each lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who have won three of their last four games. Patrick Lalime made 28 saves in the win, while Rene Bourque finished the game with two assists.
Chicago stands 11th in the Western Conference, six points back of the final two playoff berths in the standings. The Blackhawks are 17-13-1 at home this season.
