(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators continue a four-game road trip tonight, as they visit the San Jose Sharks for a test at HP Pavilion.
Ottawa has been struggling as of late, as the club has dropped four of five and eight of its last 11, including the opener of this trek. On Monday, Jean- Sebastien Giguere turned away 24 shots to guide the Anaheim Ducks past the Senators, 3-1, in a rematch of last season's Stanley Cup Finals.
This was the first meeting between the clubs since the Ducks defeated the Senators in five games to capture the franchise's first-ever championship last season.
Christoph Schubert scored the lone goal for Ottawa, Martin Gerber made 28 saves and Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson each posted an assist.
Bryan Murray was the coach on the bench for Ottawa during last season's Stanley Cup Finals, and is back in that position after firing head coach John Paddock last week. The Senators are just 1-2 since that move, however.
Ottawa finds itself a point back of Montreal for first place in the Northeast Division and two points behind New Jersey for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Sens have lost three straight and six of their last seven on the road, where they are 17-12-3 this year. Ottawa will also visit Los Angeles and Phoenix on this trip.
Unlike Ottawa, San Jose has been rolling as of late and gave the Senators a little bit of help recently. The Sharks have won a season-high six straight games after knocking off Montreal, 6-4, on Monday.
Joe Thornton had a four-point night, with two goals and two assists, while Jonathan Cheechoo added a goal and two helpers. Playing his fourth game with San Jose, Brain Campbell netted his first goal, a power-play tally, in what was his home debut with the club.
Campbell added an assist, Patrick Marleau and Jody Shelley also scored, while Evgeni Nabokov made 27 saves for San Jose, which hasn't won seven in a row since an eight-game winning streak from April 3-15, 2006.
The Sharks sit third in the Pacific with 82 points, one shy of second-place Anaheim and five behind first-place Dallas.
San Jose is 15-13-5 at home this season.
Ottawa has won four of its last six against the Sharks, and is playing in San Jose for the first time since October 18, 2003. The Sens posted a 4-1 victory on that day and have won three of their last five in San Jose.
