Kiprusoff, Flames welcome Predators

Fri 7th, March 2008

(Sports Network) - The Flames got exactly what they needed out of Miikka Kiprusoff last time out. Calgary will hope for another solid effort out of its goaltender tonight, as it hosts the Nashville Predators at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Kiprusoff looked out of form in his previous two starts before Tuesday's win over Columbus. The Finnish netminder had allowed five goals over two setbacks, and was lifted early in one of those loses before stopping all 39 shots faced in a 1-0 win over the Blue Jackets.

Kiprusoff turned aside 18 shots in the first period, seven more in the second and 14 in the final stanza en route to collecting his second shutout of this season and 26th of his career.

Craig Conroy netted the lone goal, while Eric Nystrom and Robyn Regehr each had an assist as the Flames won their third straight game. Calgary also posted its sixth win in eight games while pulling even with Minnesota for first place in the Northwest Division. The Wild play in Atlanta tonight.

Jarome Iginla will get another chance tonight to become the Flames' all-time leading goal scorer. Iginla netted a pair of goals in Saturday's win over Phoenix, giving him 364 markers in his career, which is tied with Theo Fleury for most in a Calgary uniform. However, he failed to light the lamp versus Columbus.

The Flames play the second portion of a three-game homestand tonight and are 17-10-8 as the home team this year.

The Predators fell into a tie with Vancouver for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference after losing to the Canucks, 6-2, on Thursday.

Vernon Fiddler scored an unassisted shorthanded goal, while Greg de Vries also tallied a goal for Nashville, which fell to 2-2-0 on its current six-game road trip, a season long for the club. Jan Hlavac and Martin Erat posted assists.

Dan Ellis started between the pipes, but was lifted after he yielded three goals on 11 shots. Chris Mason finished the game 30 saves.

Both Vancouver and Nashville have 76 points on the season, two behind seventh- seeded Colorado.

Nashville fell to 14-16-4 as the visiting club this year and wraps its current road swing Sunday in Detroit.

The Predators had lost three in a row to the Flames, including the first two tests against them this season, before posting a 3-0 home win on January 15. Nashville is 9-2-1 in its last 12 against Calgary, but has lost two straight after winning four in a row at Pengrowth Saddledome.
