Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - J.P. Dumont's goal 2:13 into overtime helped Nashville edge Calgary, 2-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
The scoring chance came after Calgary defenseman Adrian Aucoin gave the puck away to Dumont in the top right circle. Dumont quickly dropped it Alex Radulov, whose shot hit the post. Dumont then moved in and knocked home the rebound, helping the Predators improve to 3-2-0 on their season-high, six-game road trip.
"It was a big game from everybody tonight," said Dumont. "It was a big two points and we have to give credit to our penalty kill. It was big for them tonight. We had a quick start and had some good scoring chances. We never quit and we knew that we didn't have to panic, that the goal was going to come."
Scott Nichol had the other tally and Dan Ellis stopped 29-of-30 shots for Nashville, which has racked up 78 points and holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Vancouver is on the outside looking in with 76 points.
Craig Conroy had the lone tally and Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves for Calgary, which had a two-game win streak snapped. The Flames, with 80 points, are tied atop the Northwest Division with Minnesota and are third in the West.
"Our power play had a chance to make a difference a lot of times in the game but we didn't do it," said Calgary's Jarome Iginla. "Our penalty kill was great, but on the other side of it our power play right to the last two minutes of the game didn't make a difference."
The Flames took more than 13 minutes to register a shot in the first period, and overall tested Ellis just six times in the opening 20 minutes. Nashville, meanwhile, peppered Kiprusoff with 14 shots without success.
Conroy broke the deadlock at 11:38 of the middle stanza, as he collected an errant pass that had ricocheted off the left boards, skated in alone and slipped the puck through the five hole of Ellis.
Nashville tied it up with 8:58 remaining in the contest as Nichol went wide, used his speed to elude a pair of defenseman and wristed a shot under the arm of Kiprusoff to make it a 1-1 game.
The season series ended at 2-2-0, but the Predators avoided losing their third straight on the road to Calgary.
