(Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames will try to end their homestand on a positive note tonight, when they welcome the struggling St. Louis Blues for a matchup at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
The Flames are 1-0-1 on a three-game residency that ends this evening. Calgary opened the stand with Tuesday's win over Columbus, but was edged by Nashville on Friday.
Calgary comes into tonight's contest with 80 points and is tied with Colorado for second place in the Northwest Division as well as the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Minnesota leads the Northwest with 81 points.
Both the Wild and the Avalanche are idle this evening, so tonight Calgary has a chance to take over sole possession of first place in the division and the third seed in the West.
The Flames were handed an overtime loss by the Predators, as J.P. Dumont's goal 2:13 into OT helped Nashville edge Calgary, 2-1.
The scoring chance came after Calgary defenseman Adrian Aucoin gave the puck away to Dumont in the top right circle. Dumont quickly dropped it Alex Radulov, whose shot hit the post. Dumont then moved in and knocked home the rebound.
Craig Conroy had the lone tally and Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves for Calgary, which had a two-game win streak snapped.
Jarome Iginla will get another chance tonight to become the Flames' all-time leading goal scorer. Iginla netted a pair of goals in last Saturday's win over Phoenix, giving him 364 markers in his career, which is tied with Theo Fleury for most in a Calgary uniform. However, he has failed to light the lamp in his last two contests.
The Flames are 17-10-9 as the host this season and have won three of their last five contests at the Saddledome.
The Blues, meanwhile, have lost two straight and eight of their last nine games. The slide has helped drop St. Louis to 14th out of 15 Western Conference teams and the Blues are currently 10 points out of a playoff spot.
St. Louis was handed its most recent setback Saturday in Vancouver, as Brad Isbister and Henrik Sedin scored late in the third period to lift the Canucks to a 3-2 decision at GM Place.
Brad Boyes tallied twice for the Blues, while Manny Legace took the loss in his 15th consecutive start, allowing three goals on 28 shots. Legace has been handed losses in eight of his last nine outings despite giving up more than three goals just one time in that span.
St. Louis has a total of 10 goals over its last nine contests.
Tonight marks the third portion of a season-high, nine-game road trip for the Blues, who are just 10-16-5 as the visitor this year and have dropped six straight and seven of their last eight away tilts.
Calgary is 2-1 against the Blues this year and has taken nine of 10 and 11 of the last 13 encounters between the clubs. St. Louis has also been defeated in five straight trips to the Saddledome.
