Vancouver's Luongo notches shutout against Kings

Thu 30th, October 2008

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Roberto Luongo made 28 saves to record his 40th career shutout, as the Vancouver Canucks blanked the Los Angeles Kings, 4-0, at Staples Center.

Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist for the Canucks, who have won two of their last three games. Mason Raymond, Kyle Wellwood and Taylor Pyatt also lit the lamp, while Henrik Sedin picked up two assists.

"It was real fun to see the twins (Henrik and Daniel Sedin) get on the score sheet," Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault said. "Their teammates are really happy for them. It was a great show, it was two points that we'll take."

Jason LaBarbera allowed four goals on 18 shots for Los Angeles, which has dropped three straight and four of five overall.

"I think that (consistency) is something we have got to work on," said Kings defenseman Matt Greene. "I think that's what the good teams in this league do, they have consistency and that's what we've got to work towards."

Vancouver jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:09 mark of the first period. While on the power play, Kevin Bieksa faked the shot from the right point and dished down low to Henrik Sedin, who quickly centered the puck to his twin brother Daniel, positioned at the top of the crease. LaBarbera made the initial stop and the Swede got a second whack and jammed the disc between the pads of the Los Angeles netminder.

The Kings looked to even the score with 3:18 remaining in the opening frame, but Alexander Frolov was unable to convert on the penalty shot.

The Canucks grabbed a 2-0 lead two minutes later, as Raymond faked the slap per from the left point, went around a Kings defender, took the puck to the net and fired a rising shot that found room on the short side.

Wellwood put Vancouver up 3-0 at 12:20 of the second period, notching a power- play goal. Henrik Sedin accepted a pass from Wellwood behind the goal and backhanded the puck out front to his sibling. Daniel Sedin then curled and slid a perfect, cross-ice pass between two Kings players to a wide-open Wellwood at the left side of the cage and he buried the disc into the empty net.

Pyatt capped the scoring 6:13 into the third period.
