San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Minnesota Wild defenseman Kurtis Foster suffered a broken left leg in the second period of Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss at the hands of the San Jose Sharks.
With a little more than five minutes gone in the second period, Foster was chasing after the puck toward the endboards with San Jose's Torrey Mitchell. Foster got tangled up, dipped below the glass, and hit the boards with full- force. Mitchell received a minor tripping penalty on the play.
Medical personnel came out and stabilized Foster, putting his left leg in a splint. Foster was carted off the ice on a stretcher and then taken to local O'Connor Hospital.
Foster, 26, has seven goals and 11 assists in 55 games played this season.
The Wild currently sit in first place in the Northwest Division (third overall in the Western Conference) with 87 points, three better than Vancouver, Calgary and Colorado.
