Osgood, Red Wings aim for turnaround in Game 5 against Preds

(Sports Network) - The top-seeded Red Wings will try to stop the Nashville Predators' surge in the Western Conference quarterfinals tonight, when Detroit hosts Game 5 of the best-of-seven series at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings won two straight on their home ice to take a 2-0 edge in this series, but the eighth-seeded Predators bounced back to tie the set with two victories in a row on their home ice.

Detroit will try to keep the pattern going tonight, as it seeks another victory in the Motor City. The Red Wings were the best home team in the NHL this year, posting a 29-9-3 record as the host club.

The Predators were just 18-18-5 as the visiting team during the regular season.

Following tonight's game, the series will head back to Nashville for Sunday's Game 6 meeting at the Sommet Center.

Shea Weber had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators to a 3-2 triumph in Game 4 at Nashville.

Dan Hamhuis and Greg de Vries each lit the lamp for the Predators while Dan Ellis was strong in the win with 39 saves.

Pavel Datsyuk scored both goals while Dominik Hasek gave up all three goals on 14 shots in the loss for the Red Wings. Chris Osgood replaced Hasek in net early in the second period and stopped all 13 shots he faced.

The 43-year-old Hasek has struggled in this series, going 2-2 with a 2.91 goals against average and .888 save percentage. As a result, Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock is expected to start Osgood in goal tonight. Osgood made the All-Star game this year and finished the season with a 27-9-4 record, 2.09 GAA and .914 save percentage.

The 35-year-old Osgood has played in 88 career playoff games, but hasn't started a postseason test since he was with St. Louis in 2004.

The Red Wings were the winners of this year's Presidents' Trophy as the league's best team in the regular season. Detroit has won the award in three of the last four years and six times overall.

Detroit also won the Central Division for a seventh straight season and hit the 100-point mark for a record-tying eighth campaign in a row.

The Red Wings won the series against the Predators this year, going 5-3-0 against them in the regular season. Detroit and Nashville have met once in the postseason, as the Red Wings defeated the Preds in six games during the 2004 conference quarterfinals.
