Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mike Cammalleri had a goal and two assists as the Calgary Flames held off the Detroit Red Wings, 5-3, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Craig Conroy and Jamie Lundmark each had a goal for the Flames, who had dropped five of seven coming into the game. Miikka Kiprusoff made 30 saves in the win.
Calgary now has 90 points on the season and holds a five-point edge on Vancouver for first place in the Northwest Division.
"We did some really good things tonight," said Conroy. "We could have done things better in the third, but we were able to get the win. We tried to keep the play in their own end as much as possible and match their speed off the rush."
Johan Franzen had a goal and an assist while Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler each lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who had a four-game winning streak stopped. Chris Osgood started the game in net, but was pulled after giving up three goals on 14 shots. Ty Conklin finished the game between the pipes and was charged with one goal on 12 shots.
"The goals I let up weren't great," said Osgood. "I felt good starting out, but I played a bad game. I love playing in Calgary so I'm kind of disappointed with my performance. You just have to move on and forget about it."
The Red Wings are in solid control of the Central Division with 105 points and are just one point behind the Sharks for the top spot in the NHL.
Holding a two-goal lead to start the third period, Calgary got some insurance 5:31 in when Conroy sent a pass from the deep left boards to the inside of the left circle where Curtis Glencross lasered a one-timer into the net.
The goal proved to be important as Detroit rallied to get back into the contest.
Franzen made it a 4-2 game just past the mid-point of the third when he skated down the left wing, dragged the puck back to get clear in the slot and snapped a wrister off the post and in.
A little over 2 1/2 minutes later, Hudler received the puck in the neutral zone, flew down the right side and chipped the disc over the defender for a clear shot in the slot that he blew past Kiprusoff.
Detroit had its chances over the next several minutes and got Conklin out of the net with just over a minute to play, but Conroy drilled the puck into the empty net from just past mid-ice to seal the victory.
The Flames grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 10:57 mark of the first period as Dion Phaneuf's quick wrister hit off the glove of Osgood and trickled in for his 11th goal of the season.
Kiprusoff stopped all eight shots he saw in the first period.
Calgary made it a 2-0 contest just 2:21 into the second period as Lundmark threw a shot on net from a sharp angle at the right side.
About a minute later, Detroit almost got on the board as Mikael Samuelsson was sprung on a partial breakaway and got a shot off from the right side that got past Kiprusoff and slid along the goalline, but Cory Sarich swept the puck out of danger.
The Flames took a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 5:38 mark of the second as Cammalleri skated in from the right side and, just as he was about to go behind the net, banked the disc off the left pad of Osgood and got it into the net.
The goal chased Osgood to the bench and Conklin took over between the pipes.
Detroit got on the board with 2:25 left in the second as Datsyuk wristed the puck home from the left side during a scramble in front of the net.
