Kindle, Houston, Muckelroy to return to Longhorns next season

Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Three junior Longhorns defenders will be back in orange and white for the 2009 season, as defensive tackle Lamarr Houston and linebackers Sergio Kindle and Roddrick Muckelroy announced Monday that they will all return to Texas for their senior season.

"We're really excited that Lamarr, Sergio and Roddrick have decided to come back for their senior season," head coach Mack Brown said. "They are terrific kids who are on schedule to earn their degrees and can be great leaders for our team."

With a 24-21 victory over No. 10 Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Texas boasted a 12-1 record and finished the 2008 season ranked third in the USA Today Coaches Poll and fourth by the Associated Press. It marked the third time in five years that the Longhorns have finished the season in the nation's top five.

Despite battling a foot injury for much of the season, Houston posted 22 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks and seven tackles for a loss on the year.

Kindle played in all 13 games, starting 11, for Texas in 2008 and recorded 53 tackles and 10 sacks.

Muckelroy started all 13 games and led the team with 112 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble return for a touchdown.

The three were integral parts of a Longhorns defense that led the Big 12 in scoring defense (18.8 ppg), total defense (342.9 ypg) and rushing defense (83.5 ypg) last season. Texas' D also led the nation in sacks with 3.6 per game, held every opponent under its season scoring average and kept its opponents to 14 points or fewer in seven of the 13 games.
