Caps recall Varlamov

Arlington, VA (Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Semyon Varlamov from the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Hershey.

Varlamov last played for the Capitals on December 7 when he turned aside 26 shots in a 3-0 victory at Tampa Bay, then missed nine games with a lower body injury and was sent to Hershey in late December. He made only two starts for the Bears, one on January 3 and another on February 7.

The 21-year-old Russian, who was selected for his country's Olympic squad, has a record of 12-1-2 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in 16 games for Washington this season.

Varlamov made his NHL debut last season and has a mark of 16-1-3 with a 2.25 GAA in 22 career regular-season games.
