Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres have acquired center Cody Hodgson from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for right wing Zack Kassian, a trade involving former first-round picks.

The teams also swapped defensemen, with the Sabres sending Marc-Andre Gragnani to the Canucks for Alexander Sulzer.

Hodgson, the 10th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has registered 16 goals and 17 assists in 63 games this season. Kassian, the 13th player taken in 2009, appeared in 27 games for Buffalo this year, collecting three goals and seven points.

Sulzer posted one assist in 12 games for the Canucks. The German blueliner has one goal and eight points in 74 career games with Nashville, Florida and Vancouver.

Gragnani recorded one goal and 12 points in 44 games. He led the Sabres in playoff scoring last season.
