Dupuis lifts Pens over Stars in SO

Wed 29th, February 2012

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Pascal Dupuis scored the winner in the fourth- round of the shootout as Pittsburgh took down Dallas, 4-3, at American Airlines Center.

Dupuis skated in on net and buried his wrister over the right pad of Kari Lehtonen. Michael Ryder then missed his attempt to the right of the net to give the Penguins the win.

Chris Kunitz, Steve Sullivan and Craig Adams all scored for the Penguins, who have won four straight. Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves in the win.

"It's just a great job for the team to come back there," said Kunitz. "They caught us, but great job on the kill in overtime. Fleury was great, as always, and the defense was blocking shots, so it was a good team win."

Jamie Benn, Sheldon Souray and Ryder all lit the lamp for the Stars, who had a four-game winning streak stopped. Lehtonen turned aside 26 shots in defeat.

"Thought we played hard and had a solid game, wish we could have that second point," said Dallas head coach Glen Gulutzan. "Huge road trip up ahead that we'll need points in."

Dallas scored with 4:35 to play in the first as Steve Ott sent a pass from the low left circle to the slot where Benn's wrister trickled past Fleury.

Pittsburgh, though, tied the game with 1:07 left in the opening period as Sullivan got behind the defense down the right wing and cut out front before lifting a backhander past Lehtonen.

Late in the second, Dallas took a 2-1 lead after Loui Eriksson left a drop pass from the top of the left circle to the slot where Souray shot it home with 13 seconds left.

The Penguins tied the game 3:33 into the third as Jordan Staal fought his way from the right boards to the slot and threw a shot on net that was deflected in by Adams.

Just 39 seconds later, the Pens took their first lead of the game when a slap shot by Paul Martin at the right point was redirected in by Kunitz.

The Stars answered three minutes later as Eriksson sent a saucer pass over a defender from the low left side to the right where Ryder was able to chip it in.
