Pittsburgh Penguins (42-24-6) at Detroit Red Wings (35-23-13), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - A rematch of last year's Stanley Cup Finals is on tap tonight in Detroit, as the Red Wings welcome the reigning champion Pittsburgh Penguins for a showdown at Joe Louis Arena.

This is the second meeting between the clubs this year, but the first in Detroit, where the Penguins posted a 2-1 victory in Game 7 to claim Lord Stanley's Cup on June 12. The Red Wings defeated Pittsburgh for the Cup the previous spring, ousting the Pens in six games.

Pittsburgh has carried the momentum from that title into the 2009-10 campaign, while the Red Wings have struggled to stay in the Western Conference playoff race all year. The Pens are first in the Atlantic Division and second in the East with 90 points, while Detroit has 83 points and is two ahead of Calgary for the conference's eighth and final postseason berth.

The Penguins hosted Detroit earlier this year, notching a 2-1 shootout victory on Jan. 31. The Red Wings have taken six of the last nine regular-season meetings and Pittsburgh has dropped three of five in Motown.

Pittsburgh has struggled a bit in recent weeks, posting a 2-2-2 record in its last six games. The Pens lost for the second time in three games on Saturday, dropping an overtime decision against visiting Carolina. Jamie McBain's tally with less than a second to play in overtime sent the Hurricanes to the 3-2 victory at Mellon Arena.

In the final 20 seconds of overtime, Chad LaRose hit the post on a 2-on-1 break, then followed up his own rebound and ripped a wrister that Marc-Andre Fleury stopped. With Carolina still pressuring as time wound down, McBain tracked a loose, bouncing puck and lifted it over a prone Fleury for his first NHL goal with nine-tenths of a second to go.

Jordan Staal and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins, while Fleury stopped 26 shots in defeat. Malkin returned to the lineup after missing the previous two tests with a foot injury.

"We played well but I felt we didn't come out of the gate the way we usually should," said Pens forward Ruslan Fedotenko. "We didn't set the tone, and didn't play how we can play and it came back to bite us."

Tonight marks the first of two straight on the road for the Penguins, who will also visit Alex Ovechkin and the rival Washington Capitals on Wednesday. Pittsburgh has a solid 21-14-2 record as the guest this season.

The Red Wings enter tonight on an upswing, having won four out of five and posting an 8-2-1 record in their last 11 games. Detroit has recorded at least a point in its last five outings (4-0-1).

Detroit rebounded from a shootout loss to Edmonton with Saturday's dramatic win in Vancouver. Henrik Zetterberg found the back of the net with a backhander as time expired in overtime, giving the Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Canucks at General Motors Place.

With the clock winding down in the extra session, Zetterberg had his back to the net as he made his way into the slot with a defender on him. Zetterberg then put a backhander off the inside of the right post and into the net for the thrilling win.

"I didn't know how much time was left, but it was enough," Zetterberg said.

Valtteri Filppula had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings, who went 2-0-1 on a three-game road trip.

Todd Bertuzzi and Pavel Datsyuk also scored for Detroit, which got 29 saves from Jimmy Howard.

Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves sat out Saturday's game with a head injury and is questionable for tonight.

Detroit has a 19-10-5 record as the host this year and is kicking off a three- game homestand this evening. The Red Wings will also welcome St. Louis and Minnesota during the residency.
