(Sports Network) - A pair of teams hoping to remain in the playoff picture square off tonight at Pengrowth Saddledome, where the Anaheim Ducks shoot for a fifth straight win versus a Calgary Flames club that has won six of its last nine.
Both the Ducks and Flames have been playing well as of late, but neither team is currently inside the Western Conference's playoff picture. Calgary is four points back of eighth-place Detroit in the race with 10 games to play, while Anaheim is a little further back. The Ducks are nine points behind the Red Wings with a game in hand despite their longest winning streak since a five-game run from Jan. 5-13.
The Ducks went 0-2-1 to begin a seven-game homestand before closing out the residency with four straight wins. Anaheim capped the stand with a 5-2 win over Colorado on Sunday in a game that featured Teemu Selanne's 600th career NHL goal.
Selanne netted the milestone 34 seconds into the second period, scoring one of Anaheim's three power-play goals in the game, to become the 18th player in league history to reach the mark. The 39-year-old is also just one goal shy of matching Jari Kurri for the most scored by a Finnish skater in NHL history.
"My linemates have been feeding me. I think they wanted [the milestone] more than I did," Selanne said. "Most importantly, we won the game. This was just a bonus."
Jason Blake and Ryan Getzlaf also scored on the power play, Troy Bodie netted a short-handed goal and Matt Beleskey lit the lamp for the Ducks, who begin a three-game road trip tonight. Corey Perry had three assists and Jonas Hiller made 26 saves in the win.
The Ducks played without leading goal-scorer Bobby Ryan, who has tallied 31 times this year but missed the game due to flu-like symptoms. He is questionable for tonight.
Calgary plays host to Anaheim after dropping a 4-3 test in Minnesota on Sunday. Steve Staios, Ian White and Eric Nystrom tallied for the Flames, who saw a two-game win streak halted.
Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss in relief, allowing the game-winning goal on nine shots after Vesa Toskala gave up three goals on 12 shots in the start.
Calgary will be without Daymond Langkow tonight after the forward left Sunday's game on a stretcher. Langkow was knocked to the ice head-first by Wild defenseman Greg Zanon while the two battled for position as White let loose a shot on net. The puck, though, struck Langkow in the back of the neck.
The 13-year veteran was on the ice for nearly 10 minutes before his exit, but did have movement in all his extremities. He remained at a hospital in St. Paul overnight but flew home Monday night and is out indefinitely.
"You never want to see that. It's scary, especially when it's a teammate and a guy you're close with," said Flames defenseman Cory Sarich. "When stuff like that happens in hockey, it really makes you think 'I'm out there playing a sport when terrible things like that happen.' It's freaky and really scary. I'm just glad to hear he's doing well and that's the main thing."
In addition to Langkow's injury, the Flames have been without Christopher Higgins for the last four games due to a foot injury, while fellow forward Curtis Glencross has sat out the last two contests with a knee ailment.
The Ducks had won their last four over the Flames, including two matchups this year in Anaheim, before Calgary notched a 3-1 home win on Feb. 13 behind a pair of goals from Jarome Iginla. That win was the Flames' ninth in their last 11 at home over the Ducks.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
