Atlanta Thrashers (34-31-12) at Washington Capitals (49-15-12), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Atlanta hasn't had any success against the Washington Capitals this season, but the playoff hopeful Thrashers aim to change that tonight when they visit their Southeast Division rivals at Verizon Center.

The Thrashers enter tonight trailing Montreal, Philadelphia and Boston by two points for the final three playoff berths in the Eastern Conference, but with its track record against the Capitals, Atlanta can hardly count on picking up two points tonight.

Washington is 4-0 against the Thrashers this season and has scored a total of 22 goals during the lopsided season series. The Capitals, who have already clinched the division title as well as the top seed in the East, have taken six straight and eight of their last nine games against Atlanta.

The Thrashers have also been defeated in five straight and six of their last seven trips to D.C. Atlanta's last road victory over the Caps came on Feb. 2, 2008.

Atlanta won for the second time in three games on Tuesday, edging the host Toronto Maple Leafs for a regulation victory. Nik Antropov notched the game- winner early in the third period and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 27 shots to lift the Thrashers to the 3-2 triumph at Air Canada Centre.

Maxim Afinogenov and Evgeny Artyukhin also tallied for the Thrashers, who are 6-2-1 since a six-game losing streak from March 6-14.

"This was a good game for us today. We needed the two points to keep up in the hunt," Afinogenov noted. "We did a good job overall and fought hard to keep up in the game."

Thrashers defenseman Pavel Kubina suffered an undisclosed injury in Tuesday's win and is questionable for tonight. Kubina is second among Atlanta defenseman with 38 points this year.

Atlanta has a sub-par 16-16-6 record on the road this year, but has won its last three away from the Peach State. Tonight marks the second stop on a three-game road trip for the Thrashers, who will visit Pittsburgh on Saturday.

With the division title and the top seed in the conference secured, the Capitals enter tonight with just the best record in the league to play for in the regular season. Washington is six points ahead of San Jose for the Presidents' Trophy.

Perhaps the fact that the Caps have little left to play for has caused the team to enter tonight on a three-game slide (0-1-2). Washington hasn't gone four in a row without a win since an 0-2-2 stretch from Oct. 6-12.

Washington earned a point in its last outing, dropping Tuesday's overtime decision against visiting Ottawa. Alex Kovalev delivered the 5-4 win for Ottawa by scoring a power play goal with 18.9 seconds left in OT.

Alexander Semin scored twice for Washington, which squandered a chance to match a franchise record with its 50th win. Jose Theodore allowed all five goals on 31 shots but is still a remarkable 17-0-3 in his last 21 games.

The Capitals are closing out a three-game homestand tonight and will try to avoid losing three straight at Verizon Center for the first time this year. Washington has a superb 27-5-5 record as the host this season.
