Philadelphia Flyers (38-32-6) at New York Islanders (31-35-10), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - With points at a premium during their push to the playoffs the Philadelphia Flyers would be hard-pressed to find an opponent more suited to their own success than the New York Islanders.

The Flyers will aim for a 16th straight victory over their division rivals when they visit the Islanders for tonight's battle at Nassau Coliseum.

Philadelphia has taken all five meetings with the Isles this year and would like to close out the season series with yet another victory. The streak marks the longest active stretch of victories by one team over any single opponent in the league.

The Flyers are tied with Montreal and Boston for the last three playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Atlanta Thrashers are also looming just two points back in ninth place. Boston hosts Florida tonight while the Thrashers are visiting Washington.

On the other hand, the Islanders come into tonight with little to play for as they sit tied for 13th in the East and 10 points out of a playoff spot.

The Flyers last lost a game in this series on Feb. 12, 2008. Since that road loss, Philly has won seven in a row on Long Island. The Orange and Black have posted a pair of 2-1 regulation victories at the Coliseum so far this year.

Philadelphia has been off since Sunday night, when it posted a much-needed win over the rival New Jersey Devils. The 5-1 victory ended the Flyers' five-game slide and has kept Philly in the playoff picture. Tonight, the Flyers will try to post consecutive wins for the first time since beating Toronto and the Islanders on March 7 and 9, respectively.

Ville Leino and Simon Gagne each had a goal and an assist to lead the Flyers to Sunday's easy win over the visiting Devils. Defensemen Lukas Krajicek, Matt Carle and Kimmo Timonen also had goals for the Flyers, while Brian Boucher stopped 32 shots in the win.

Philly jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game and built a 4-0 edge by the close of 40 minutes.

"You have to step on your opponents when you're up 2-0 or 3-0. That's what we did," Boucher said.

Boucher will get the start tonight, but backup goaltender Johan Backlund will not be able to dress. Instead, Jeremy Duchesne is expected to be recalled from Philadelphia's AHL affiliate in Adirondack to serve as the backup.

The Flyers will be without forward Dan Carcillo tonight after the enforcer was suspended for two games by the league. Carcillo received the ban for a high-stick to the face of New Jersey forward David Clarkson.

Philadelphia will try to improve its poor 16-19-3 road record this evening. The Flyers have lost three straight and seven of their last eight games as the visitor.

Meanwhile, the Islanders failed in their spoiler role Tuesday against the rival Rangers, dropping a 4-3 regulation decision to their visiting foes from Manhattan.

Vinny Prospal racked up a goal and an assist for the Blueshirts and the loss dropped the Isles six points behind the Rangers, who are just four points in back of the Flyers.

Two tallies from Blake Comeau and one from Mark Streit led the Isles, while Dwayne Roloson stopped 23 attempts in defeat.

"We had two pretty good periods and the Rangers had one and it was enough for them to win," said Islanders coach Scott Gordon.

Tonight marks the second test of a four-game homestand for the Isles, who have a solid 20-14-3 record at the Coliseum.
