(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to extend their longest winning streak of the season to four games when they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes for tonight's battle at Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers were just 3-4-1 prior to their current three-game winning streak and they were unable to post consecutive victories until putting together this run. Philadelphia's offense has sparked the hot streak with the team scoring 15 times over its last three contests.
Philly is coming off Saturday's 6-1 rout of the visiting New York Islanders in a game that also featured 120 penalty minutes between the two clubs. Jeff Carter registered two goals and an assist to help the Flyers destroy the Islanders.
Chris Pronger added a pair of power-play goals for the Flyers, who have also won four of their last five games. Kimmo Timonen had a goal and two assists, and rookie Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves.
"Our shots from the point were getting through," said Philly center Danny Briere. "Our guys in front of the net did a very good job, so that's encouraging. We knew with guys like Kimmo and Prongs, especially back there, you know at some point things are going to start going in."
Briere will miss tonight's game after getting slapped with a three-game suspension for cross-checking Isles forward Frans Nielsen in the head on Saturday. Briere, who is tied for the team lead with six goals, was given a five-minute major penalty for the incident. He will be eligible to return for Sunday's game in Washington.
Bobrovsky has been in net for all three games during the Flyers' winning streak and could get the start again tonight. The 22-year-old Russian rookie is 5-2-0 on the year with a .917 save percentage and 2.44 goals-against average.
The victory did come at a cost, however, as Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros and forward Andreas Nodl left the game with upper-body injuries. Both players are questionable for tonight's test.
Philadelphia is 4-3-0 as the host this season and has won three straight in the City of Brotherly Love.
Unlike the Flyers, Carolina's offense has not been clicking recently as the club has been shut out twice over its last three games. The Hurricanes, who dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Pittsburgh on Saturday, have lost two of three and three of their last five games. Brent Johnson stopped all 33 Carolina shots to lead the Penguins to the win at RBC Center.
Meanwhile, Cam Ward allowed all three goals on 31 shots for the Hurricanes, who were unable to build off Friday's 4-3 win over the Rangers in New York.
"I think we've got to calm down a little bit and maybe pay a little more attention to our zone," said Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason. "Give us a better opportunity to break the puck out easier and eliminate the odd-man rushes."
Carolina lost Saturday's game in part because it went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Hurricanes are 6-for-47 overall on the man advantage this season.
The Hurricanes are 4-3-0 as the visiting team this year and have won two straight on the road.
The Flyers have dominated Carolina in recent year, posting six straight wins in this series overall. The 'Canes have also dropped three straight and five of their last seven in Philly.
