Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Cristobal Huet made his debut in a Washington uniform a successful one, posting his third shutout of the season as the Capitals trounced the New Jersey Devils, 4-0, at the Prudential Center.

Huet, who was acquired from Montreal before Tuesday's trade deadline in exchange for a second round pick in the 2009 draft, stopped all 18 shots he faced to earn his 22nd win of the season.

Alexander Semin added a goal and an assist for Washington, which has won two straight after a three-game losing streak. Viktor Kozlov, Mike Green and Donald Brashear all tallied for the Capitals.

"(Huet) played amazing," Green said. "His rebound control was outstanding, and the saves he needed to make, he made. I'm very comfortable with him out there."

Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Poti added a pair of helpers each for the Capitals, who improved to 30-27-8 (68 points) with the win and pulled to within three points of idle Carolina's lead in the Southeast Division.

Martin Brodeur allowed four goals on 29 shots for the Devils, who lost their second straight after reeling off five consecutive victories.

"We played a team tonight who played with a sense of urgency and desperation," said New Jersey coach Brent Sutter. "We were a team who played that way the first period. The last two periods, we weren't a very good hockey team."

After a listless first 30 minutes, Washington finally broke through on the power play. Semin fired a pass through the legs of Devils defenseman Mike Mottau to Green in the left circle for a one-timer rocket, which beat Brodeur with 8:33 left in the second period.

"The first period we were feeling each other out, but by the second period we were clicking again," Green said. "The lines were rolling, we didn't have any mess-ups on the bench save for that one in the first period, but once we got rolling, we were unstoppable from there."

Just 43 seconds into the third period, Washington extended its lead to two. Alexander Ovechkin found a charging Kozlov in the right circle, and Kozlov ripped a shot that evaded Brodeur to give the Caps a 2-0 cushion.

Washington cashed in on the power play for a second time with 8:59 gone in the third. Nearing the end of a four minute power play, Poti faked a shot and dropped a pass to Semin, who blasted a one-timer past Brodeur for his 20th marker of the season.

Brashear finished off the rout with 2:55 left in the game, beating Brodeur with a rising shot from the slot that eluded the goaltender's outstretched glove.
