Final Score: Florida 2 - Atlanta 4
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Todd White and Rich Peverley each had a goal and an assist as Atlanta downed Florida, 4-2, in the first game for both teams after the Olympic break.
Colby Armstrong and Pavel Kubina each had a goal for the Thrashers, who had dropped two of three before the break. Johan Hedberg turned aside 34 shots in the win.
"We played a good team game tonight," said Atlanta defenseman Ron Hainsey. "We got a great save from Hedberg early and then scored at the other end. That's a huge swing in the game, instead of being down 1-0 we went down and scored and we were up 1-0. Everything was good tonight."
David Booth had a goal and an assist while Stephen Weiss added a goal for the Panthers, who have dropped a season-high seven straight games. Scott Clemmensen stopped 35 shots in the loss.
"We knew tonight we had to be opportunistic around their net and cash in on our chances," said Florida head coach Peter DeBoer. "I didn't think we did a good enough job. We have to find a way to bury some chances."
The Thrashers jumped all over Florida at the beginning of the game and got two goals separated by 1:09.
The first came at 2:34 of the opening frame. After Hedberg made a beautiful right pad save on a Michael Frolik chance, the play went down the other end and Peverley's shot from the right circle went into the left corner of the net.
Moments later, Jim Slater left a drop pass at the right circle for Armstrong, who blasted the puck past the glove of Clemmensen.
The Panthers, though, answered at the 5:58 mark of the first on the power play as Dennis Seidenberg's shot from the right point was stopped, but Weiss was in front to tuck home the rebound.
Booth's goal at the 10:45 mark of the first evened things up.
Atlanta grabbed the lead back at the 7:33 mark of the second on the power play as Peverly sent a pass from the left circle to the right for a one-timer by White.
Kubina's sixth goal of the season made it 4-2 with 5:13 left in the second on a slap shot that beat Clemmensen.
Hedberg turned aside 13 shots in the final period to preserve the win for Atlanta.
