Final Score: Vancouver 4 - Columbus 3
Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Christian Ehrhoff scored 1:33 into overtime, as the Vancouver Canucks edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 at Nationwide Arena.
In the extra period, Ryan Kesler missed the net with a wrist shot, but the puck caromed off the boards to Ehrhoff, who put it home from in close on the left side to give the Canucks the win.
"I just went with the guys and joined the play," Ehrhoff said about his game- winning goal. "It kind of took a good bounce for me and I just put it on net and the goalie wasn't there."
Kyle Wellwood and Alexandre Burrows each registered a goal and an assist for Vancouver, which improved to 5-4 on its nine-game road trip. Demitra also tallied for the Canucks.
Andrew Raycroft got the start between the pipes in place of Roberto Luongo, who was given the night off after leading Canada to the gold medal in the Olympics and allowed three goals on 30 shots.
Andrew Murray, Antoine Vermette and Derek Dorsett each lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped three in a row. Steve Mason stopped 27-of-31 shots in defeat.
"The game was what I thought it would be," Blue Jackets interim head coach Claude Noel said. "You're playing a good team. When you look at the game, our power play wasn't very good."
With Columbus ahead 3-2 after two periods, Wellwood tied things at 14:41 when he scored into an open net on a pass from Mason Raymond following a Blue Jackets turnover. Columbus had the better of the chances in the remaining time on the clock, but was unable to break the deadlock and the game went into overtime.
Columbus opened the scoring at the 6:00 mark of the first period. Murray chipped the puck past a Canucks defender at center ice, skated it down the right side and beat Raycroft to the blocker side.
Vermette put the Blue Jackets ahead 2-0 with 2:30 left in the first when his wrist shot while falling to the ice just got across the line. The goal was briefly reviewed, but upheld.
Burrows put home a Wellwood feed from in close to get the Canucks on the board at 3:40 of the second. Demitra then tied it at 2-2 with a power play tally at the 11:00 mark.
However, Dorsett buried a cross ice pass from Raffi Torres with 4:39 left in the middle period to put the Blue Jackets back in front.
