NHL Game Summary - NY Islanders at Atlanta

Final Score: NY Islanders 3 - Atlanta 6

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Nik Antropov scored twice, and a pair of newcomers paid immediate dividends in Atlanta's 6-3 victory over the New York Islanders.

Forwards Clarke MacArthur and Evgeny Artyukhin both lit the lamp in their Thrashers debut. Atlanta acquired the towering Artyukhin from Anaheim on Monday and picked up MacArthur in a trade with Buffalo prior to Wednesday's trade deadline.

Niclas Bergfors and Maxim Afinogenov each registered a goal and an assist for Atlanta, which is 6-2-1 in its last nine games at Philips Arena. The success on home ice has helped the Thrashers keep pace in the playoff chase. Atlanta entered Thursday's contest just one point out of the final spot in the Eastern Conference.

"It's important to get all the new guys going," Bergfors said. "It's always easier to settle in as a new guy when the team is winning."

Johan Hedberg stopped 34 shots in the win.

Mark Streit and Rob Schremp each pumped in a power-play goal for the Islanders, who have dropped seven in a row on the road. They haven't won as the guest since a 5-4 shootout decision at Phoenix on January 9.

New York starting goaltender Dwayne Roloson played less than 10 minutes after surrendering three goals on seven shots. Martin Biron made 12 saves the rest of the way.

The Thrashers scored four times before the game was 15 minutes old. All four tallies came at even strength, beginning with Bergfors' marker at the 5:04 mark.

Bryan Little carried the puck into the Islanders zone before dropping it back to Antropov. Little accepted the return pass and continued to the front of the net and fed Bergfors for an easy tap-in.

Antropov's wrister from the middle of the left circle found the back of the net at 8:51. MacArthur then jumped on a loose puck in the low slot 25 seconds later.

Afinogenov beat Biron with a sizzling wrister at 14:25 to make it 4-0.

Streit put the visitors on the board with 17 seconds to go in the opening frame, but Antropov netted a power-play goal midway through the second period to restore a four-goal cushion.

Artyukhin streaked down the right side, took advantage of an unexpected pick from an official to get around Streit and banged a shot in off Biron's pad with 4:07 remaining in the middle stanza.

Schremp and teammate Tim Jackman scored 70 seconds apart in the third period to make the final score more respectable.

"We had chances in that second period. We didn't really give up that many chances in the second period. We did not really give up that many chances in the third period. In that first period, it felt like everything they shot went in," said Islanders head coach Scott Gordon.
