Final Score: Vancouver 3 - Chicago 6
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jordan Hendry scored his first goal of the season and dished out an assist, as the Chicago Blackhawks used a five-goal first period to defeat the Vancouver Canucks, 6-3, at United Center.
Duncan Keith, Andrew Ladd, Troy Brouwer, Kris Versteeg and Marian Hossa each lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who have won two in a row and six of seven overall. Cristobal Huet made 20 saves for Chicago, which is now tied with idle San Jose atop the Western Conference with 91 points.
Alexandre Burrows, Ryan Kesler and Mikael Samuelsson scored for the Canucks, who dropped to 6-5-0 on their 14-game road trip.
Roberto Luongo turned aside 9-of-14 shots in the first period before being pulled for Andrew Raycroft, who made nine saves in relief.
"It's highly disappointing, Luongo said. "They carried the play in the first period. They came out strong and that was pretty much the game. I felt good, that's the sad part."
The Blackhawks dominated the game from the start, scoring five goals in the first period.
Ladd got things started just 3:48 in, sending a backhander on net from along the right boards. The puck made its was through traffic in front and snuck past Luongo.
Chicago went ahead 2-0 on Keith's power-play goal at the 10:22 mark. Just 31 seconds later, Brouwer sent a snap shot past Luongo for a three-goal lead.
"It was probably not the way he wanted to start the game," Versteeg said of Luongo. "But he's a good goalie. That's what we have to do, get pucks at him, get them at his feet and really go to the net."
The Canucks didn't get on the board until Kesler's wrister found the back of the net at the 14:09 mark.
Versteeg scored with 4:52 remaining and Hendry lit the lamp with 42.3 seconds left to make it 5-1.
The margin was the same heading to the third after Burrows and Hossa scored in the middle stanza.
Samuelsson lit the lamp with 2:51 to go in the third to account for the final margin.
