Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Steven Stamkos scored a pair of goals including his 40th of the season, and extended his franchise-record point streak to 16 games, as Tampa Bay downed Atlanta, 6-2, at St. Pete Times Forum.

Martin St. Louis added a goal and two assists for the Lightning, who halted a five-game losing streak. Teddy Purcell and Paul Szczechura posted a goal and assist each.

Antero Nittymaki improved to 17-0-0 lifetime against Atlanta with 29 stops.

"I thought it was a good team win out there," said Stamkos. "Nitty was great back there, the defense did a good job of moving the puck up and our forwards were tenacious."

Niclas Bergfors and Colby Armstrong tallied for the Thrashers, who had won two in a row. Johan Hedberg was victimized for all six goals on 30 shots.

"We have to start winning games if we want to get into the playoffs," said Atlanta forward Nik Antropov. "Everybody knows the situation and we have to be more aware when we're out there."

Bergfors opened the scoring at 3:22 for Atlanta, but Tampa Bay responded with three scores before the end of the period.

Stamkos fed St. Louis for the tying score at 8:47, before Stamkos slammed home a Kurtis Foster pass on a power play at 13:06, and Szczechura made it 3-1 with three minutes left.

Armstrong's 11th of the season pulled the Thrashers within a goal at 13:37 of the second, but Purcell converted the first penalty shot of his career to put the Bolts back ahead by two almost three minutes later.

Vincent Lecavalier made it a three-goal game for Tampa at 4:01 of the third, then Stamkos put the Bolts up 6-2 on a solo effort with 3:41 left in the contest.
