Final Score: St. Louis 3 - Colorado 7
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Chris Stewart netted the first hat trick of his career and added an assist as the Colorado Avalanche took a 7-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at Pepsi Center.
Milan Hejduk added two goals while T.J. Galiardi had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who had dropped three of four coming into the game. Craig Anderson had 39 saves in the win.
"It felt to get it, it's always big when you get your first NHL Hat trick," said Stewart. "But more importantly we got the win. It was a big two points we nabbed tonight."
Alexander Steen had two goals and David Perron added a goal for the Blues, who had a five-game winning streak snapped. Chris Mason started in net, but was pulled in the second period for giving up four goals on 15 shots. Ty Conklin played the rest of the game and gave up two goals on 17 shots.
"We were just a step behind tonight," said Steen. "Skating is the biggest part of the game cause you can't clutch and grab and hold anymore and they were just a step ahead of us all night."
St. Louis took the initial lead in the game at the 8:35 mark of the first as Perron tipped in an Eric Brewer shot, but Colorado scored the next five goals to assume command of the game.
Hejduk scored just 11 seconds after Perron's goal and Colorado took a 2-1 lead halfway through the first period as Paul Stastny sent a backhand pass from the left side to the front where Stewart jammed it home.
Stewart made it a 3-1 game 54 seconds into the second as his slapper from the top of the right circle dinged off the post and went in and Hejduk scored his second of the game just 24 seconds later on his 17th of the season.
Galiardi made it a 5-1 game halfway through the middle stanza before Steen stopped the bleeding 31 seconds later to make it a three-goal affair.
Stewart capped the hat trIck with a penalty shot goal with 57 seconds left in the second as he deked to the forehand and wristed it into the right corner while Steen scored his second goal of the game 4:23 into the third.
Matt Hendricks capped the scoring in the game with an empty-net goal.
