New York, NY (Sports Network) - Sean Avery scored a pair of goals, as the New York Rangers topped Philadelphia, 3-1, at Madison Square Garden.

Michal Rozsival notched the other goal, while Erik Christensen and Chris Drury picked up two assists each for the Rangers, who have won two games following a four-game losing streak to move to within one point of idle Boston for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Henrik Lundqvist needed to make just 17 stops to win his 28th game of the season.

"It was probably one of our better team games. In the discipline part of it, in the neutral zone, away from the puck as far as taking away from their speed, we played hard," said Rangers head coach John Tortorella. "Everybody pitched in and we found a way to play a pretty hockey game."

Danny Briere picked up the lone goal for the Flyers, who could not capitalize on a win in the final seconds against Chicago on Saturday.

Michael Leighton allowed all three goals on 21 shots in defeat.

Briere's power-play score from the left circle 4:13 into the contest put the Flyers ahead.

Avery knotted the score 1:53 into the second period, then Rozsival ripped a shot off the left post from the point on a Rangers power play for a 2-1 game at 4:54.

Avery then put New York ahead by two with 5:55 left in regulation with a wrister from the left boards that beat Leighton under the crossbar.

The Flyers went with an extra skater for the final 1:44 of regulation and failed to make a dent in their deficit.

"They came out and wanted it more than us," Briere admitted. "I don't think we did such a bad job defensively, but on offense we didn't get much going."
