Final Score: Columbus 0 - Nashville 1
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Predators rookie defenseman Cody Franson scored 1:54 into overtime to lift Nashville to a 1-0 win over Columbus at Bridgestone Arena.
In the extra session, Franson snapped a shot from the right point that squeezed through Columbus goaltender Steve Mason and trickled across the goal line.
Franson's tally came moments after Pekka Rinne robbed Blue Jackets veteran backliner Mike Commodore with a nifty glove save. Rinne stopped 33 shots to record his second consecutive shutout and sixth of the season.
"(My consecutive shutouts) go hand-in-hand with the team," Rinne said. "I think the team's really playing well defensively. Early on, (Columbus) had some really good chances, but after that we really got it going."
The Predators have blanked opponents three times during their current five- game winning streak. Nashville sits tied for fifth with Los Angeles in the Western Conference standings with 87 points, one point ahead of idle Colorado. The Kings won later Saturday over the Islanders.
Mason finished with 30 saves for the Blue Jackets, who have lost 14 straight (0-9-5) in the Music City. Columbus' last win there came on April 3, 2006.
"I thought we managed it well. I thought we did a lot of good things," said Blue Jackets head coach Claude Noel. "I thought our effort to score, our effort to win was exactly what it needed to be."
