Final Score: St. Louis 1 - New Jersey 0
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Ty Conklin made 29 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season, as the playoff-hopeful St. Louis Blues stymied the New Jersey Devils, 1-0, at Prudential Center.
Alexander Steen was the only player who found the back of the net, beating New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur late in the first period with a slap shot.
The win was St. Louis' ninth in its last 12 games. The Blues are six points behind Detroit for the eighth spot in the Western Conference.
"It's amazing what he's able to do," Blues head coach Davis Payne said of Conklin. "You talk about being on the bench for a while and then all of a sudden getting thrown into the fire and being able to perform like that. It takes a guy with a great focus."
Brodeur finished with 19 saves for the Devils, who had won five straight on home ice and fell two points behind Pittsburgh for first place in the Atlantic Division.
The lone goal scored in the game occurred with 13 seconds to play in the opening frame.
As the Devils were in the midst of a line change, Steen gathered a pass from defenseman Barret Jackman, carried the puck across the blue line to the top of the left faceoff circle before unleashing a rocket that beat Brodeur on the glove side.
"(Steen) made a pretty good shot. I was in good position, but he just beat me clean," Brodeur said.
Conklin stopped 13 shots in the second period and nine in the third to make Steen's 21st tally of the season hold up as the game-winner.

Where the players come to play and STAY.
