NHL Game Summary - NY Rangers at Boston

Final Score: NY Rangers 1 - Boston 2

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tuuka Rask stopped 23 shots as the Boston Bruins got a big win with a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers.

Both teams are struggling for their playoff lives, but it was the Bruins that came away with the two points. They now have 76 on the season, only one more than Atlanta -- which topped Philadelphia -- for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. New York is stuck at 71 points with 10 games to play.

Miroslav Satan and Dennis Wideman each scored a goal for the Bruins, who came into the game having lost five of seven.

"I really didn't care about the shutout, I just wanted the win," said Rask. "It was a really good game at all ends of the ice for us. We kept it going the whole 60 minutes and everyone did a great job."

Michael Del Zotto scored the lone goal while Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots in the loss for the Rangers, who have dropped three straight and seven of their last nine to fall to the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference.

Holding a 1-0 lead to start the third, Rask preserved the advantage early in the period when he swallowed up a shot from a wide open Chris Drury with 18:41 to play.

Boston added some insurance just past the midway mark of the third. Vladimir Sobotka had the puck along the deep left boards and sent a pass to the top of the left circle for Wideman, who kicked the puck from his skate to his stick and lasered a backhander over the glove of Lundqvist.

The goal proved fortunate as New York finally got on the board with 3:04 to play as Del Zotto's slap shot from the high slot was going wide, but it hit off of Milan Lucic and got past Rask.

New York took Lundqvist out of the net for the extra attacker late in the game, but Boston and Rask hung on for the win.

The first period passed scoreless as Lundqvist stopped 12 shots and Rask turned aside nine.

In the second period, Boston was able to kill off a double minor incurred by Zdeno Chara for high sticking at the 8:30 mark.

Lundqvist made a stop on Daniel Paille's penalty shot attempt with 3:47 to play in the second. However, Boston scored just 23 seconds later as Andrew Ference received a pass at the left point, skated down low and fired a pass across the ice for Satan, who was wide open at the right side and one timed the puck in.
