NHL Game Summary - Florida at Toronto

Final Score: Florida 4 - Toronto 1

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - David Booth scored twice for the first time this season as the Panthers beat the Maple Leafs, 4-1, at Air Canada Centre.

Scott Clemmensen recorded a season-high 42 saves for the Panthers, who have won two straight and are seven points back of Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 10 games left.

Michael Frolik also scored, while Jason Garrison added an empty-netter to seal the Florida win.

Fredrik Sjostrom scored the lone goal for Toronto, which had a three-game winning streak broken. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 25 shots in defeat.

The Panthers scored first as Booth carried the puck into the neutral zone up the right boards, had it stolen, then took it back in the Toronto zone and put it over Giguere's left shoulder on the breakaway with 8 1/2 minutes left in the opening period.

Toronto dominated the shot total, 19-8, in the opening period, but couldn't find the back of the net.

"That's been the pattern when we've gotten down to a team like this where we're outplaying them and outchancing them and don't get rewarded and they score a goal on a mistake, we kind of lose what we should be doing in terms of generating offense," said Leafs coach Ron Wilson. "We had a lot of shots but guys weren't going to the front of the net and stopping and paying a price, it's simple."

After a scoreless second period, Florida extended its lead to 2-0 on Booth's second of the night, a deflection in front off a Bryan McCabe slapper from the right point at the 1:25 mark.

"I thought we played a really solid road game," McCabe said. "We got some great goaltending and a big two points."

Frolik added the third goal after Radek Dvorak carried the puck down the middle and dropped it off on the left circle for the center, who blasted it into the net with about 8 1/2 minutes left in the game.

Sjostrom got the Leafs on the board with a turnaround slapper from the right circle after good forechecking by the offense to re-gain possession with 2:20 left in regulation, but Garrison's empty-netter with 1:31 to go cooled Toronto's slight momentum.
