NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Edmonton

Final Score: Vancouver 2 - Edmonton 3

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Jeff Deslauriers was strong with 31 saves and Andrew Cogliano was credited with the game-winning goal in the second period, as the Edmonton Oilers held on for a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rexall Place.

Tom Gilbert and Robert Nilsson also scored for the Oilers, who have won three straight after a five-game skid but still have the fewest points in the NHL with 55.

"I liked how we handled the third. We had the lead and we were a little conservative, but that's okay," Oilers coach Pat Quinn said. "We'll get by that as we get better."

Daniel Sedin and Mason Raymond scored for the Northwest Division-leading Canucks, who have dropped three of four but maintained their five-point lead over idle Colorado.

Roberto Luongo turned aside 19 shots in the loss.

"I got to find the consistency in my game that I had before," Luongo said. "You have a bad game every 12 games, now it seems every two or three games I'm not at my best. I just got to find that consistency level back and make sure game in and game out I have that swagger that I typically have."

At the 8:01 mark of the second period, the Oilers moved ahead 3-1 on a goal by Cogliano. He carried the puck over the blue line down the right side, cut into the slot and, between two defenders, fired a wrist shot that hit Luongo but had enough momentum to slide behind the netminder and over the goal line.

Vancouver drew within 3-2 when the Sedin twins connected for a nice tally with 3:48 to go before the second intermission. Henrik held control at the base of the left circle and sent a blind backhand pass across the goal mouth through the low slot, perfectly placed for brother Daniel, whose quick one- timer from near the right post lit the lamp.

In the third period, the Canucks had several chances, including a stuffer attempt by Kyle Wellwood at the left post midway through. However, Deslauriers refused to budge and ended with 11 saves in the final 20 minutes.

Luongo was pulled for the extra attacker within the final minute but the Oilers held on.

Before seven minutes had elapsed in the contest, the Oilers led 2-0. After Gilbert tallied at the 3:02 mark, Nilsson lit the lamp for the 11th time this season at 6:58.

The Canucks cut their deficit in half with 6:39 to play in the opening stanza. From near the right post, Michael Grabner slid a pass across the crease for Raymond, whose one-timer snap shot from near the left post below the circle beat Deslauriers.
