Final Score: Tampa Bay 5 - Boston 3
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Steven Stamkos and Paul Szczechura each tallied twice as Tampa Bay surprised Boston, 5-3, at TD Garden.
Martin St. Louis added a goal and one assist for the Lightning, who won their second in a row after losing five straight.
Antero Niittymaki had to withstand a 50-shot barrage, and won with a season- best 47 saves.
"It's tough to play in this building but if you stick together and stick to the game plan then you have a chance," said Tampa head coach Rick Tocchet."
Zdeno Chara, Mark Recchi and Johnny Boychuk scored for the Bruins, who had won three of four coming in and fell two points behind seventh-place Philadelphia after the Flyers lost in overtime to Minnesota.
Tuukka Rask stopped only 13-of-18 shots in defeat.
"We didn't have a good start tonight. The opportunities we gave them they capitalized on," said Bruins head coach Claude Julien. "Defensively, I didn't think we were as sharp as we have been. When you spot the type of players that scored for them tonight some opportunities, they certainly will make the best of it."
Szczechura converted a St. Louis pass in front for a 5-2 Lightning lead on a power play three minutes into the third period, then Recchi deposited a rebound with 8:10 remaining.
Boston had a 6-on-4 advantage and Rask on the bench starting with 2:07 remaining after a bench minor on the Bolts, but Niittymaki stopped three good chances from in close, including a sprawling glove on Recchi at the right post with just over a minute to play.
Stamkos redirected home a Steve Downie feed at the 49-second mark to get the Bolts on the board, then St. Louis streaked ahead of two defenders to tip in a dish by Vincent Lecavalier at 18:05 for a 2-0 game.
Chara halved Boston's deficit with 26.8 seconds to play in the first in a 4- on-4 situation, tipping in David Krejci's floater from the right boards. It proved to be the only dent in Niittymaki's armor in the first period, as he finished with 18 saves.
Szczechura restored Tampa's two-goal edge 6:50 into the second period, before Boychuk got the B's within one less than five minutes later.
Stamkos, though, ended the period with a power-play score, a rocket from the left circle off a Kurtis Foster pass to make it 4-2.
"He's been very dynamic for us, obviously," Tocchet added of his club's leading goal scorer. "He's got that spot over there where Ovechkin had it by himself for awhile, Stammer's, putting his stamp on that side."
