Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tim Thomas made 31 saves to record his fifth shutout of the season, as the Boston Bruins received a jolt from a moribund power play to post a 5-0 victory over Calgary in a matchup between playoff hopefuls from TD Garden.

David Krejci, Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg each had a power-play goal for the Bruins, who entered the game 0-for-22 on the man advantage in the past eight games.

"I didn't really know what to expect," said Thomas, who was making his first start since March 15, "but the team came out so strong in front of me and did a really good job of making me feel comfortable and that helped a lot."

Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi tallied 1:27 apart in the third period for Boston, which has won three of its last four games.

The Bruins and Philadelphia currently hold the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference with 80 points apiece. The ninth-place Thrashers are two points behind both clubs thanks to Saturday's 4-0 win over Carolina.

Calgary starting netminder Miikka Kiprusoff was beaten five times on 29 shots in 45-plus minutes. Vesa Toskala stopped all six shots he faced in relief.

The Flames remain six points out of the playoff picture in the West.

"It's literally all Game 7s for us now," said Calgary captain Jarome Iginla. "Other teams have done it in the past and run the table near the end. We've put together a couple of times five or six wins this year and we're going to need it now."

Seidenberg's one-timer from the point beat a screened Kiprusoff with 5:52 to play in the first period.

A rising shot off the stick of Krejci beat Kiprusoff over the left shoulder 1:29 into the middle frame. Boston led 3-0 after Chara fired a wrister past Kiprusoff on the blocker side at 6:15 of the second.
