NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Los Angeles

Final Score: Dallas 4 - Los Angeles 1

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Brad Richards scored twice, and the Dallas Stars used a potent power play to down the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1, at Staples Center.

Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott also scored, as the Stars went 4-for-7 on the man advantage to win for the fourth time in seven games. Dallas had been mired in a power play slump, going 0-for-8 over its last three games.

Kari Lehtonen made 29 stops to earn the victory and help keep the Stars' fleeting playoff chances alive. Dallas is now nine points behind Colorado for the final spot in the West but has just seven games remaining.

Michal Handzus tallied the lone goal for the Kings, who squandered a chance to sweep the six-game season series from the Stars. Los Angeles came into the game having killed 34 of its last 36 penalties but allowed four power play goals for the first time since October 6 -- its second game of the season.

Jonathan Quick allowed four goals on 26 shots, as Los Angeles fell behind Detroit and into seventh place in the Western Conference. The Kings, with 90 points, are one point in front of eighth place Colorado and one behind the Red Wings, who beat the Predators earlier Saturday.

Handzus put the Kings on the board with 4:08 left to play in the first, corralling a rebound out in front of the net and beating Lehtonen.

The Stars, though, shored up their defense and went on the attack on the power play with three scores in the second period.

Skating 5-on-3 to open the frame, Dallas tied the game 17 seconds in. A nifty tic-tac-toe play saw Stephane Robidas send a slap-pass to Mike Ribeiro, who quickly sent it over to Morrow. Morrow was able to redirect the puck into a wide-open net.

A little over four minutes later, Richards notched his first power play tally with a slapshot from the left side that deflected off Rob Scuderi's skate and into the net. Richards then blasted a one-timer from the top of the slot for another power play goal at the 9:15 mark for a 3-1 lead.

Ott capped the scoring 48 seconds into the third on a rebound chance out in front.
