NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Boston

Final Score: Buffalo 3 - Boston 2

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Ryan Miller stopped 40-of-42 shots as Buffalo nipped Boston, 3-2, at TD Garden.

Tyler Myers, Paul Gaustad and Tim Kennedy tallied for the Sabres, who have won six of seven and moved within a point (95-94) of idle second-seeded Pittsburgh in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

"It was really big for us, especially with the spot they're in and the desperation they have," Myers said of Boston, which is clinging to the eighth spot in the East. "It was a huge road win for us. As a team right now, we're focused on moving forward."

David Krejci and Dennis Seidenberg scored for the Bruins, who had won three of four coming in.

Starter Tim Thomas was pulled after allowing three goals on 14 shots in 26-plus minutes. Tuukka Rask stopped all 19 shots he faced the rest of the way.

Seidenberg managed to bounce a shot off Miller, into the air, and down over the goal line with 5:37 to play in regulation for a 3-2 game.

Boston went with an extra attacker for the final 1:06, but the home team's best chance didn't happen until the final two seconds as Mark Recchi couldn't slip a shot past Miller at the right side.

Marco Sturm failed on a penalty shot 3:20 into the contest as Miller closed off the area between his pads, but Krejci gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 7:43 when he snuck a backhander home at the right post.

The Sabres tied the game at 9:56 when Myers' floater from the right point hit a Bruins defender and tumbled by Thomas, then went ahead 1:38 later thanks to Gaustad.

Kennedy's one-timer slipped through Thomas' pads for a 3-1 Sabres edge at 6:08 of the second and Thomas got the hook in favor of Rask.

Miller shut the door with 14 saves in the period.

"You have to try and change the momentum," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said of the switch. "I don't think I have to try and justify anything. Like I said hindsight is 20-20. You look at Timmy's last game. He was extremely good. We expected that tonight."
