Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Corey Perry had a goal and an assist and Curtis McElhinney filled in admirably for an injured Jonas Hiller, as Anaheim beat the Stars, 3-1, in a battle of desperate Western Conference teams.

The Ducks and Stars both trail eighth-place Colorado by nine points in the playoff race. Anaheim has seven games left, while Dallas has six.

McElhinney made 30 saves in place of Hiller, who sat out due to back spasms, while Nick Bonino and Kyle Chipchura each scored during Anaheim's three-goal second period, helping the Ducks to their sixth win in their last eight games.

"[McElhinney] continues to prove that he's a quality goaltender," Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said.

Kari Lehtonen was solid with 43 saves, and Loui Eriksson had the lone goal for Dallas, which has alternated wins and losses over the last nine games.

Both teams failed to light the lamp in the first period, but Anaheim made up for lost time with three goals in 5:19 in the middle stanza.

Bonino got things started on the power play with his first career goal at the 8:11 mark, and Perry's wrister from the right circle made it 2-0 at 12:41.

Chipchura roofed a rebound in front just 49 seconds later for a 3-0 cushion.

Eriksson was the beneficiary of a nice pass from Brad Richards from behind the net, as he beat McElhinney over his right shoulder with 5:12 left in the second.

McElhinney made 14 saves in the third to maintain the two-goal lead en route to the win.

"In the third period we had a lot of chances to score two goals. Their goalie played really well in the third and that was the difference maker," Lehtonen said.
