NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Detroit

Final Score: Edmonton 4 - Detroit 5

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Brad Stuart redirected a Pavel Datsyuk wrist shot for the game-winning tally with 1:07 to play, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 5-4, despite squandering a four-goal lead down the stretch.

Detroit held a 4-0 edge with 3 1/2 minutes to play in the second period before an Oilers surge tied the game with 9:30 remaining in regulation. Datsyuk, who played in his 600th NHL game Tuesday, fired a wrister from the top of the left circle, and Stuart tipped it with the upper part of the shaft of his stick underneath a jumping Jeff Deslauriers and into the net for the game-winning score.

"The thing we had going for us is they did call it a goal on the ice. You look at all the replays, it's tough to say one way or the other, so the call has to stand," Stuart said of his game-winning goal, which was upheld after an official review. "We kind of let them back in the game...The bottom line is we found a way to get two points, and that's the most important thing this time of year."

Johan Franzen finished with a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who extended their season-best win streak to six. Detroit, which is an NHL-best 12-2-1 since the Olympic break, stands one point behind Nashville for fifth place in the West and one point ahead of seventh-place Los Angeles. The Kings beat the Predators, 2-0, on Tuesday.

Jimmy Howard needed to make only 22 stops to record the win.

Tom Gilbert scored twice for Edmonton, while Mike Comrie had a goal and an assist in defeat. With the loss, the Oilers secured the worst record in the NHL this season.

Deslauriers stopped 39-of-44 shots for the Oilers.

Detroit built a 3-0 lead in the first period behind goals from Andreas Lilja, Niklas Kronwall and Drew Miller.

Lilja scored 6:38 into the game when a Valtteri Filppula snap shot from the left point grazed the defenseman's shirt and into the net. It was Lilja's first goal of the season.

With 5:38 remaining in the frame, Franzen lost control of the puck, but the disc drifted into the slot to Kronwall, who accurately fired a slapshot to the top right-hand corner for a two-goal lead.

Miller increased the advantage to three with 28 ticks remaining in the frame, and Franzen made it 4-0 on a one-timer in front of the net with 3:29 to go in the second period.

Edmonton, though, scored four consecutive goals to climb back into the contest.

First was Gilbert, whose power play tally 31 seconds after Franzen's score trimmed the deficit to three. Only 56 seconds later, Comrie scored his ninth of the season to make it a 4-2 game heading to the third.

"Obviously, they're a great team, and I think the two goals at the end of the second period were big for our confidence," Oilers forward Andrew Cogliano said. "We just tried to gain momentum and get to the goalie. It ended up being an exciting game, but we gave up too many goals in the first."

The Oilers kept coming, as Zack Stortini scored 3:03 into the third on a wraparound attempt. Gilbert completed the comeback with 9:30 to play when he took a Cogliano feed from behind the net and fired it perfectly into the left-hand side of the twine.
