Final Score: Anaheim 5 - Colorado 2
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Jason Blake scored a goal and picked up a career-high four assists to help the Anaheim Ducks beat the spiraling Colorado Avalanche, 5-2, at Pepsi Center.
Saku Koivu registered a goal and three assists for the Ducks, who have won three straight and seven of their last nine games.
Anaheim's Teemu Selanne lit the lamp to match Jari Kurri (601) for the most goals scored by a Finnish player in the NHL. Selanne had gone four games without a goal since becoming the 18th player in league history to join the 600-goal club when the Ducks hosted Colorado 10 days ago.
"It's a big honor," Selanne said of tying Kurri. "When I was young I would have never expected this. He was my idol."
Steve Eminger and Scott Niedermayer also tallied for Anaheim, which is seven points behind the Avalanche for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with six games to play.
Curtis McElhinney made 27 saves in the win.
Milan Hejduk and Darcy Tucker scored for Colorado, which is 1-5-1 in its last seven games and holds a two-point lead over the ninth-place Flames. Calgary visits the Mile High City on Friday.
"We have to get back to our game," said Colorado captain Adam Foote. "We've been trying to do too much and that is dangerous. There is no room for panic."
Craig Anderson allowed five goals on 27 shots in defeat.
The Avalanche appeared to open the scoring, but Cody McLeod was ruled to have touched the puck with a high stick.
Eminger put Anaheim on the board at 15:40 of the first period, then Koivu drove to the net and backhanded a Blake pass over Anderson in the dying seconds of the opening frame.
Hejduk's power-play goal trimmed the deficit in half with 6:38 remaining in the second period, but Niedermayer made it 3-1 with 30 seconds to play in the middle stanza.
Selanne pulled even with his boyhood idol at 2:34 of the third. The goal came moments after a stellar pad save by McElhinney on T.J. Galiardi.
Blake and Tucker traded goals later in the period.
