Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Owner Rick Porter announced on Tuesday that Holy Bull Stakes winner Winslow Homer is injured and will not be able to remain pointed toward the Kentucky Derby.
"Winslow Homer had a little sensitivity in his shin Sunday morning," Porter noted on his website. "We went over him with a fine-toothed comb and found a small stress fracture in his cannon bone, resulting in Winslow having to go on the shelf for the next 60-90 days. Winslow should return to training in early April. This is another tough luck story for me and the Fox Hill fans but hopefully we will have a huge summer and fall with Winslow Homer."
Trained by Tony Dutrow, Winslow Homer won the Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 23. The three-year-old colt has career earnings of $152,825 and has won three of four lifetime starts.
Porter, who races under the Fox Hill Farm banner, was the owner of 2007 Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun and the filly Eight Belles who was second to Big Brown in the Run for the Roses in 2008.
