Pai Gow Poker, part 3

Odds & News | Conrad Kn ( Tue 21st, July 2009 )

In part 1 and part 2 I talked about Pai Gow Poker's rules, its origins and some basic strategic tips. In part 3, I will give you an example of how this applies to Online Gambling using Jazz Casino & Sportsbook's own online casino.

Pai Gow Poker in Practice

JazzSports.com has multiple casino games as part of their Online Sportsbook System, supported by DGS Systems, and among them is Pai Gow Poker. Signing up with them is free and the casino supports free play, so you can play for fun for as long as you want in order to get acquainted with the game. And if you like it there, they give you a free $25 casino chip with your first deposit to get you started on betting real money.

Their version of Pai Gow Poker follows all the typical Las Vegas/Online Casino rules described in part 1 of this article; the Joker is a wild "bug" (and ace, except to complete straights and flushes), an A 2 3 4 5 straight is higher than a K Q J 10 9, but lower than an A K Q J 10 straight, and you instead of setting up manually can use the House Way (the method used by the dealer to set up the hands) if you want to.

There is no Dragon Hand though, so no playing two hands. This is also a strictly single player affair (you against the bank), so unfortunately you won't find the "all against the dealer" feeling you get from playing on an actual Pai Gow Poker table, but this won't affect your odds at all.

Bets can go from $1 to $100 per hand. Winnings are paid even money but carry the standard 5% commission this game has, like most brick and mortar casinos.

Their casino games are all Flash-based, so all you need is an up-to-date web browser and an internet connection. This makes the JazzSports.com Pai Gow Poker game an ideal tool to learn and practice for the real thing, at no cost for you. You can the move up to gambling real money ether online or in a physical casino.

Pai Gow Poker is a great entry-level card game. You can play in ether small or big amounts, there is no multiple drawing of cards per game so hands are played quickly, and many game result are draws so you won't lose all your money too quickly. The poker fundamentals will also allow you to move to a more competitive card game once you feel comfortable, though Pai Gow Poker's complex strategy will probably remain appealing and challenging to you for a very long time.
