Hawaii pulls away from Mexico to win Little League World Series

South Williamsport, PA (Sports Network) - Tanner Tokunaga hit a pair of home runs and drove in three, as Hawaii downed Mexico, 12-3, to win the Little League World Series.

Waipahu, Hawaii scored at least one run in each of the game's six innings and pulled away to give the United States its fourth consecutive win. Iolana Akau also homered, while Caleb Duhay had a hit, RBI and scored three times.

Duhay also picked up the win after limiting Mexico to three runs on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. He also struck out seven of the 25 batters he faced. Christian Donahue was perfect in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Hawaii held just a 4-3 lead after three innings, but put up three runs in the fourth, and four in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Hawaii had a similar late run in the U.S. final, as it came back from a 5-1 deficit in the sixth inning to beat Louisiana and reach the championship game.

Jesus Sauceda homered for Mexico, which committed three errors in the loss. Eduardo Rodriguez batted 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sergio Rodriguez allowed four runs on five hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings for Mexico, and took the loss. Sauceda and Klaus Muller each gave up three runs in relief.

Sergio Rodriguez and Eduardo Rodriguez each had three wild pitches.

In the consolation game, Tsuyoki Setoguchi scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a Kennon Fontenot wild pitch, as Japan held on for a 4-3 win over Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Takumi Ozeki picked up the win after he gave up three runs -- two earned -- on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Ozeki also drove in a run for Japan. Shodai Mizuno recorded the final two outs to earn the save.

Setoguchi had two hits, including a double, and scored twice, while Yutaka Takeshita also had a pair of hits and knocked in a run.

Fontenot had two RBI and scored a run for Louisiana. Peyton McLemore allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits in four-plus innings to take the loss.
