Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The University of Nebraska received two years of probation among the sanctions handed down by the NCAA on Wednesday for supplying student-athletes with books and supplies above what is allowed.
The NCAA found Nebraska committed major violations, including a failure to monitor, but said they were minor in scope.
In addition to two years of probation, the university received a self-imposed $38,000 fine that was donated to charity and a public reprimand and censure.
The NCAA said Nebraska self-reported the violations, which involved 492 student-athletes across all sports receiving supplemental books and supplies totaling approximately $28,000 beyond what is allowed under NCAA rules governing financial aid.
The university agreed it failed to monitor its program based on the large number of student-athletes and sports involved over a period of five academic years.
